Day Trip- Short on time but would still like to experience a day in the life of a Naso Indian? This expedition is designed to give you a rich introduction to the Naso way of life while highlighting some of the spectacular wildlife of the area, all in a condensed 9:00am- 4:30pm schedule so that you can continue your additional travel on a timely basis. Includes round trip transportation to Soposo from Changuinola and back, traditional lunch, guided hike, and cultural activities. NOW AVAILABLE!
Two night/ Three day- This expedition features a day excursion to Sieyik, the Naso capital and home to the Naso king (the only remaining monarch in all of the Americas), located a 2-3 hour boat trip up the Teribe river. Includes round trip transportation to Soposo from Changuinola and back, all meals, two night stay in lodge or with a Naso family, trip up river to Sieyik, several guided hikes, and cultural activities. Five night/ Six day- For those hoping for a true immersion experience, this expedition offers the option of an overnight home stay with a Naso family in the Naso capital of Sieyik and a trek to Druy, another Naso community, through the pristine mountain wilderness. Includes round trip transportation to Soposo from Changuinola and back, all meals, three night stay in lodge, two night home stay, trip up river to Sieyik, several guided hikes, and cultural activities. Sample of a two night/three day itinerary
Day One: Be met by a Soposo Representative in Changuinola at 12pm. Taxi ride to El Silencio Teribe river port. Trip up Teribe river in traditional dugout canoe with motor enjoying the lush tropical scenery. Arrive at Soposo Rainforest Adventures in time for a tasty traditional meal prepared with locally grown crops. Take an afternoon hike around the neighboring community of Bajo Sodi, highlights include stop at a local waterfall with great rock slides, trek through rainforest to spot native flora and fauna and maybe even a fresh coconut to quench your thirst! You will have the chance to see how native crops are grown, harvested and prepared on our local organic farm . Help us harvest your next meal and plant a tree for our reforestation project. Return to Soposo Lodge to cool off with a dip in the tranquil waters of the Teribe river and get ready for another traditional feast. Enjoy an evening campfire with Naso folk tales and cups of hot chocolate from the local cacao trees.
Day Two: This morning kicks off with more birdsongs and after breakfast a short lesson in the Naso language. Today is your visit to Sieyic, the capital of the Naso region. Enjoy the spectacular scenery of La Amistad International Park as you make the 2-3 hour journey upriver in dugout canoe. Arrive in Sieyik and experience the warmth of a Naso welcome, complete with traditional song and dance. Lunch will be served and you can practive your Naso with the friendly people of Sieyik. The afternoon will feature a hike through the community to see the palace of the only king in the Americas and a one on one instruction in a traditional handicraft given by a local artisan. The boat ride back down will be just as beautiful but much quicker and we will be back at Soposo in time for another delicious meal. Celebrate your last night with us around another campfire and get your fill of Naso folklore.
Day Three: After a leisurely breakfast, you will say goodbye to the beautiful scenery of Soposo Rainforest Adventures headquarters and take the canoe down to the final stop in your tour. The small Naso community of Santa Rosa will welcome you to their botanical medicine garden and give you a tour and full description of the native plants and their traditional uses. Take plenty of photos of these amazing plants! When it is finally time to go, you will be given a hearty farewell and be brought back to El Silencio where a taxi will be waiting to take you back to Changuinola.
